How Credit Card Lounge Access Works

Many Indian credit cards include complimentary airport lounge access as a perk. When you arrive at an airport, you show your credit card (and sometimes a membership card like Priority Pass) at the lounge reception. They verify your card, deduct one 'visit' from your annual quota, and let you in. Inside, you get free food, drinks, Wi-Fi, comfortable seating, and sometimes showers. The value of a single lounge visit is ₹1,500-3,000 depending on the airport and lounge — so a card offering 8 visits effectively gives you ₹12,000-24,000 in value per year.

Priority Pass — The International Standard

Priority Pass is the world's largest independent lounge network with 1,500+ lounges in 148 countries. Premium Indian cards (HDFC Infinia, Regalia, Axis Magnus, SBI Elite) include complimentary Priority Pass membership. Priority Pass works at international lounges in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and at airports worldwide. The card typically comes separately (physical card mailed to you) or as a digital membership in the Priority Pass app. Guest access policies vary by card — some allow 1 guest free, others charge ₹1,500-2,000 per guest.

DreamFolks — Exited Domestic Lounges in 2025

DreamFolks was the India-focused aggregator that powered domestic lounge access for most mid-tier cards (HDFC Millennia, IDFC FIRST Classic, Axis Flipkart). That ended in 2025: Axis and ICICI dropped DreamFolks in July 2025, lounge operators terminated their contracts to deal with banks directly, and DreamFolks discontinued domestic Indian lounge services entirely from September 16, 2025. Your card's lounge benefit didn't vanish — the same entitlements now run through operator apps and card-network programs instead: Adani LoungeOne (Adani One app) at Mumbai and other Adani airports, Encalm's HOI app at Delhi T3 and Hyderabad, EliteAssist for banks like IDFC FIRST, plus Visa/Mastercard direct programs. Check your bank's current lounge T&C page before flying — the visit quota is usually unchanged, but the entry app is different.

Bank Lounge Programs

Some banks run their own lounge programs independent of Priority Pass or DreamFolks. These are sometimes called 'complimentary lounge access through Visa/Mastercard.' The access is typically limited to specific lounges that have agreements with the card network. Coverage is narrower than Priority Pass but doesn't deduct from your Priority Pass quota. If your card has both Priority Pass and bank lounge access, use the bank program for domestic travel (preserve Priority Pass visits for international travel where bank programs don't apply).

Which Cards Give the Best Lounge Access

Unlimited domestic + unlimited international: HDFC Infinia, Axis Magnus, Amex Platinum. These are the only cards in India with truly unlimited lounge access. Unlimited domestic + limited international: HDFC Diners Black (unlimited domestic + 12 international), SBI Elite (unlimited domestic + 6 international). Limited but solid: HDFC Regalia (12 domestic + 6 international), ICICI Sapphiro (12 domestic + 6 international). Basic domestic: HDFC Millennia (8 domestic), IDFC FIRST Classic (4 domestic). If lounge access is a priority, the HDFC Diners Black offers the best value — unlimited domestic lounges at a lower income requirement than the Infinia.

Pro Tips for Lounge Access

1. Check the lounge network before traveling — not all lounges accept all programs. Use the Priority Pass, Adani One, or HOI app to find participating lounges at your airport. 2. Arrive early — popular lounges (especially Delhi T3) get crowded during peak hours and may have wait lists. 3. Guest policies differ by card — check if your card allows free guests before inviting someone. 4. Some lounges have time limits (typically 3 hours) — you won't be kicked out but technically the access is time-bound. 5. International lounges often have alcohol; domestic lounges in India usually don't. 6. If you have multiple cards with lounge access, use the one with the most visits remaining for that calendar year.
