Our Review

The MRCC (as it's known in the credit card community) is the most affordable way to get into the Amex MR Points ecosystem with transfer partner access. The 5x on travel and dining is competitive, and MR Points can be transferred to airline/hotel partners — a feature you normally get only on cards costing 5K+. The question is whether the Amex acceptance trade-off is worth it at this price point. The SmartEarn (495/year) gives you 10x on specific merchants which might be better for some. The MRCC is for someone who spends heavily on dining and travel and values the flexibility of MR Points. For everyday spending, a Visa/Mastercard will still be your primary card — the MRCC is your dining and travel specialist.

Pros & Cons

Pros

Cons

  • - 2x base rate is matched by free cards like IDFC Classic
  • - Amex acceptance limits daily usability
  • - No fuel surcharge waiver
