Our Review

The Sapphiro is a solid premium card that competes directly with the HDFC Regalia. On paper, the specs are very similar — 4x base rate, comparable lounge access, similar fee structure. Where it differs: if you bank with ICICI, you get preferential treatment on fee waivers and approval. The reward point redemption ecosystem is slightly less flexible than HDFC's (fewer transfer partners). For most people, the choice between Sapphiro and Regalia comes down to which bank you have a salary account with — that bank will give you better terms.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • + 4 reward points per 100 on all spends
  • + Solid lounge access — 12 domestic + 6 international
  • + Good milestone benefits
  • + ICICI's ecosystem benefits if you bank with them

Cons

  • - 3,500 annual fee is slightly higher than HDFC Regalia's 2,500
  • - ICICI reward point redemption options are more limited than HDFC
  • - 4L fee waiver threshold is higher than Regalia's 3L
  • - Less brand cachet than HDFC Regalia in the enthusiast community
